Please note: Below, I've reprinted my original remarks on this special song, from when I first posted this song online eight years ago. As I update and modernize the rest of the site, I'm struck by my unrestrained joy of my original post. I'm older now, but this song is still one of camp's most powerful treasures. If you wish, please click here for a printable PDF of the lyrics and chords.

This is a song which is very special to me. I learned it two summers ago, July of 2002, at Camp Tawonga. (Chalutzim - Mount up!) Camp Tawonga is an awesome place, my favorite place on earth, right outside of Yosemite. It has changed my life in many ways, and I look forward to my time there each year!

Every summer, at the end of the session, Ken, one of the directors [at the time], tells us to do two good things in the coming year - one for yourself, and one for the whole world. I have been looking for these lyrics and chords for the past two years, but have been unable to find them anywhere. When I heard Tex, one of the songleaders this year, play it at the all-camp campfire, I asked him for a copy, which he gave to me the following morning. Several of my friends asked me for a copy, yet I have decided to distribute it even farther than that.

I have been placed in possession of an awesome song that means a lot to many people. Thus, I feel a responsibility to share it with the world. Ken, thank you for inspiring me to help make this world a better place. Tawonga rocks!

Quick shout out to all the 2004 ITs. You guys rock, and I miss you all so much. My counselors, Sam and Rachael, Bay and Jacob, thanks for such a great time! B-3, and the rest of Galil, it was great spending time with you, and I hope you all come back. Everyone else, I had an awesome time, and I'll never forget this summer. Thank you to everyone who contributed, and I'll see you all later!

Sincerely,

Noah Zaves

STARS IN THE SKY - author unknown

     C            Am                F

Stars in the sky, stars in the sky

                  G             C       Am

To bring the summer right back to me

     F    G         C         Am         F

Tell me you'll try, tell me you'll try

               G            C       Am

To think about me whenever you see those

     F         G     C

     Stars in the sky

C                         Em

It's just a letter from a friend of mine

F        G             C

A little picture from another time

C                     Em                    F G

A little picture of a place that we used to go

C                     Em

A word or two about a friend we miss

F        G           C

A fond reminder of a promised kiss

C                    Em                F G

A fond reminder of a vow we made long ago

Stars in the sky...

We went away when we were very young

To find the person who we would become

To find the person who was hidden somewhere inside

What we discovered these it still holds true

The friends you make become a part of you

The friends you make will each return to you like the tide

Stars in the sky...

And if by chance you should be going there

Please take this message that I hope you'll share

Please take this message to the ones to young to have learned

The time is short and there's so much to do

Don't waste a moment of what's given to you

Don't waste a moment 'cause you'll never see it return

Stars in the sky...
